Huawei Mate X7 – Complete Review

Huawei Mate X7 is one of those rare phones that immediately feels different the moment you hold it. It continues Huawei’s foldable legacy but with a more refined shape, better hinge engineering, and an overall design that looks mature rather than experimental. The phone opens into a beautiful tablet-like screen, yet when folded, it feels surprisingly slim and premium. This is where the Mate X7 instantly stands out: it blends style and practicality in a way earlier foldables struggled to achieve.

The inner display is an eight-inch LTPO OLED panel that feels rich, bright, and flexible for any type of content. Whether you are watching videos, reading long articles, or multitasking between apps, the screen holds up well with its smooth refresh rate and sharp resolution. The outer display is equally impressive, offering fantastic brightness for outdoor use and a crisp viewing experience for daily tasks. Huawei has clearly spent time making both displays feel equally important instead of treating the outer screen as an afterthought.

Performance-wise, the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset delivers strong results. Apps load quickly, animations stay fluid, and the system feels optimized for a foldable environment. HarmonyOS 6 helps here by offering smarter multitasking features. You can run multiple apps side by side, float windows around, or shift content between screens effortlessly. It creates a sense that the extra screen space is not just for show, but actually adds real convenience to your everyday usage.

The camera system is even more interesting. Foldables often compromise on camera hardware due to space limitations, but Mate X7 tries to go against that trend. The main fifty-megapixel sensor captures bright and detailed photos, while the ultra-wide and telephoto lenses add useful variety. Zoom performance is surprisingly solid, especially in daylight, and the video quality remains stable thanks to good stabilization. The only weak point is the eight-megapixel selfie camera, which feels a little basic for such a premium device. It works fine for casual use, but anyone who relies heavily on front-facing video will notice the limitation.

Battery life is another area where Huawei delivers more than expected. The large battery, combined with efficient software, gives enough power to get through a full day even with mixed folding and unfolding. Fast wired and wireless charging make it easy to top up quickly without planning ahead. Foldables usually drain faster due to their large screens, but the Mate X7 manages the balance quite well.

Durability has always been a question with foldable phones, and although no foldable is truly “rugged,” the Mate X7 does feel more secure than earlier models. Its updated hinge mechanism uses a stronger internal structure, and the body carries respectable water and dust protection ratings. This gives a small sense of confidence that the phone can handle daily usage without feeling overly delicate, though of course, it still needs mindful handling like any modern foldable.

When compared to a regular flagship smartphone, the Mate X7 offers a completely different experience. It shines for users who want a device that works like a pocket-sized tablet and a normal phone at the same time. Multitaskers, content consumers, and users who enjoy large screens will appreciate it the most. However, if you only need a simple phone for light use, social media browsing, and messaging, the Mate X7 might feel like an unnecessarily expensive upgrade. Foldables are an experience-driven category, not a necessity for everyone.

Overall, Huawei Mate X7 feels like one of the most polished foldables of 2025. It brings strong hardware, a gorgeous pair of displays, promising camera performance, and a more mature foldable experience than previous generations. It still has its tradeoffs, especially the modest selfie camera and the high price, but if you truly want a premium foldable device, this one stands near the top of the list.
